Independent Cities Association is proud to announce Sean Ashton has been sworn in as next Mayor of the City of Downey, California.

Councilmember Sean Ashton was sworn in as Mayor of the City of Downey, CA on December 12, 2017 and serves on the Executive Board of Directors for Independent Cities Association (ICA). Mayor Sean Ashton becomes the 5th sitting mayor on ICA’s Board, along with Mayors Vivian Romero (Montebello), Gary Boyer (Glendora), Peter Sham (Alhambra), and Maria Pulido (Bell Gardens).

 

Mayor Sean Ashton was elected to serve the residents of Downey in November 2014. He is a teacher for LAUSD and has taught at Heliotrope Elementary School for the past 19 years. At Heliotrope, Mayor Sean Ashton as served on the School Based Management/School Site Council, Student Council Committee, and Literacy Committee.

Mayor Sean Ashton has also served as commissioner on Downey’s Green Task Force from 2011 to 2014. He was twice elected as chairperson of the Green Task Force by the other commissioners.

Independent Cities Association Co-hosts 7th Annual All Cities Holiday Party.

Independent Cities Association is proud to have co-hosted the 7th Annual All Cities Holiday Party with League of California Cities, Contract Cities and BizFed on December 7, 2017 at the JW Marriott in Downtown Los Angeles.

The event brought over 200 elected officials and business leaders together to celebrate a great year of partnerships.

Special guests included John Chiang, CA Treasurer; Miguel Santiago, CA Assemblymember (53rd District); and Jeffrey Prang, LA County Assessor, to name a few. [Representing ICA above (l-r): Tony Vazquez, Treasurer; Mark Henderson, President-Elect; and Tai Sunnanon, Interim Executive Director]

Speaking about ICA’s bold vision and continued support of public safety and public utilities was Mark Henderson, President-Elect (left).

Independent Cities Association is proud to announce Maria Pulido has been sworn in as next Mayor of the City of Bell Gardens, California.

Councilmember Maria Pulido was sworn in as Mayor of the City of Bell Gardens, CA on November 4, 2017 and serves on the Board of Directors for Independent Cities Association (ICA). Mayor Pulido becomes the 4th sitting mayor on ICA’s Board, along with Mayors Vivian Romero (Montebello), Gary Boyer (Glendora), and Peter Sham (Alhambra).

Mayor Pulido was appointed to the Bell Gardens City Council in November of 2014. Mayor Pulido has continuously thrived to excel and increase in the knowledge of the many ongoing City projects and the responsibilities she has been entrusted with.

As part of her agenda, Mayor Pulido wants her city to continue to provide essential services in the areas of public safety, youth programs, educational programs and outreach for the senior citizens of this community. Mayor Pulido continues to attend a variety of City events and community meetings, which include Neighborhood Watch meetings, Senior Citizens events and community outreach events.
